Safety Tips for Zodmo Users

At Zodmo, we prioritize the safety and security of our users. Here are some important tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while using our platform:

  1. Verify User Profiles:
    • Before engaging in any transaction or communication, take a moment to review the user’s profile. Look for a complete profile with verified contact information and a trustworthy rating, if available.
    • Trust your instincts and exercise caution if a user’s profile appears incomplete, suspicious, or raises any red flags.
  2. Communicate Within the Platform:
    • We encourage all users to communicate through Zodmo’s in-built messaging system. This provides an additional layer of security and keeps your personal contact information private.
    • Be cautious if a user insists on communicating outside of the platform, as it may indicate suspicious intentions.
  3. Meet in Safe Locations:
    • When meeting with another user for a transaction, choose public and well-lit locations such as coffee shops, shopping centers, or community spaces.
    • Avoid meeting in isolated or unfamiliar locations, especially during late hours. If possible, bring a friend or inform someone about your meeting.
  4. Trustworthy Payments:
    • Exercise caution when it comes to financial transactions. Use secure payment methods recommended by Zodmo, such as online payment gateways or cash-on-delivery options.
    • Avoid sharing sensitive financial information or making payments through unverified channels.
  5. Product Inspection:
    • Prior to finalizing a transaction, thoroughly inspect the product or service being offered. Ask relevant questions and request additional images, if necessary, to ensure you have a clear understanding of the item’s condition and specifications.
  6. Report Suspicious Activity:
    • If you encounter any suspicious or fraudulent activity on Zodmo, please report it to our support team immediately. You can also report or block the user within the website/App. Your vigilance helps us maintain a safe environment for all users.

Remember, while Zodmo strives to create a secure marketplace, it’s important to stay vigilant and use common sense when engaging in online transactions. By following these safety tips, you can protect yourself and have a positive experience on Zodmo.

Payment Link Scams

You should be extra careful while receiving any payment through bank-affiliated wallets. Instead of receiving the payment, you might, unfortunately, give away your money.

Please remember:

  • If you receive a SMS requesting you to send money, DO NOT proceed
  • If buyer insists you to fill PIN no, stop interacting with the buyer
  • Do not EVER enter your PIN
  1. Do not enter PIN: If you receive any request to enter PIN no, it is a scam. Receiving money requires no PIN
  2. Payment SMS: If you receive a message stating money will be deducted or debited, BEWARE! You should always receive a message stating money will be credited if you are expecting payment.
  3. Watch out for words like Send, Requested by, Pay, etc. They all indicate that money is about to be debited from your account.

Note: Kindly avoid use of unknown or unsafe modes for money transaction(s) (such as khatabook) other than reliable payment methods. Your crucial monetary data & personal details can be at risk by using such apps or links.

Fake PayTM App Fraud

Beware: There is new fraud trend, whereby fraud buyers are showing fake Payment Proof for buying your product listed on ZODMO. You will not receive money in this type of fraud.

It will seem very genuine, as they will ask for your details i.e. Name, Phone Number, Amount, Time & Date. Finally, they will message you a fake payment screenshot of PayTM containing payment details.

Please cross check whether you have received payment in your PayTM app or bank. Or in this regard it could be other UPI/ Payment apps. Please do your due diligence.

Fraudsters may pose as defense personnel

Although we invest significantly in ensuring only genuine users are active on the platform, your safety is just as much your responsibility as it is ours.

Fraudsters are constantly using new ways to cheat users.

Fraudsters may pose as Defense personnel and share fake defense ID proofs to gain your trust

These fraudsters may act as a seller or buyer to defraud users.

Fraudsters posing as defense personnel and posting fake Ads as a seller

  • These fraudsters will post fake Ads of Cars, Bikes with lucrative prices
  • They will share fake defense ID proofs to gain your trust
  • After gaining your trust, they will ask for advance payment for the product as token amount, airport charges, etc.
  • After you have paid the amount, they will stop responding to your calls and messages

Fraudsters posing as defense personnel and contacting you as a Buyer

  • These fraudsters will contact you as buyers and agree to your asking price
  • They will urge to make advance payment for the product
  • They will make a payment of small amount through UPI apps to gain your trust and act as a legitimate buyer
  • After sending the small amount, they may send you QR code for a bigger amount
  • Scanning these QR codes will deduct money from your account

Please be careful while transacting on platform!

Payment Scheme fraud – Pay first and get double

If you are a seller, beware if buyer asks you to send money first. You may be tricked by paying a small amount first and receiving a multiple sum. Eventually, you may end up losing a lot of money!

Here is a scenario of how this may happen:

  • Fraudster asks you to send 1 Rupee. Little investment, no risk perceived
  • Fraudster sends back money after doubling it i.e. 2 Rupees. Trust gained
  • Fraudster now asks you to send 10 Rupees. Still seems harmless
  • Fraudster returns back 20 Rupees. More trust gained by fraudster
  • After gaining complete, trust the fraud buyer will ask for a bigger amount e.x. 1000 Rupee.
  • Once received, the fraudster will stop responding. Your money is lost now! Fraud happened.

He will often try to urge you into sending money by making emotional appeal. Please beware & use your judgement not to be deceived into this trap.

QR Code Scams

Be careful! The fraudster will reach out to you or engage you in a conversation as a buyer and will share a QR code to pay advance/token amount.

Alert: DO NOT SCAN THE QR CODE as this will result in money getting debited from your account.

Please refer the points below to save yourself from this type of fraud:

  1. The fraudster will create a QR code with a high amount and will share it with you through WhatsApp, E-mail or other platforms.
  2. After sharing the QR code, the user will ask you to select “Scan QR code” option on the app and select QR code from photo gallery.
  3. After scanning the QR code from photo gallery, you will be asked to Proceed with the payment.
  4. After clicking on “Proceed”, you will be asked to Enter your UPI PIN and money will be deducted from your account.

ZODMO urges you to NEVER scan any QR code or enter UPI PIN to receive payments from other users.

What are the indications that a buyer is a potential fraud?

Although we invest significantly in ensuring only genuine users are active on the platform, your safety is just as much your responsibility as it is ours. It is important to exercise caution and follow general safety guidelines on any internet platform as you would in the offline/physical world.

So, here are tips for spotting buyers who are possible fraud:

  • UPI Fraud: Buyer deceives to have sent you money, but the amount is deducted from your account via Google-Pe, Phone-Pe, etc.
  • Asking for Advance Product: The buyer demands you send the item before they pay for it or provides fake payment proofs
  • Fake payment proofs: The buyer will ask for item without verifying it & deceive by sending a fake payment receipt, message etc.
  • Insist on non-cash methods: Typically, the buyer insists on using a cheque. Note: cheques could get bounced and banks bear no responsibility
  • Seeking personal information: The Buyer asks for personal information like your ID, bank details, your email address, your debit/credit card number

Note: If you suspect a buyer to be fraud, please report their profile.
